Avery Dennison Japan Starts Distribution Center Operations

Opening Ceremony Held Today

Tokyo, Japan - February 5, 2009 - Avery Dennison Japan (based in 13th floor, Shiodome Building, 1-2-20 Kaigan, Minato-ku, Tokyo, President: Gary LePon), Japan office of Avery Dennison Corporation (based in Pasadena, California, USA, CEO: Dean Scarborough), a global leader in pressure-sensitive labeling materials, announced today that the company has started operations of its first distribution center (Address: 12-1, Misawa, Tomisato City, Chiba pref.), and local government officials were among those who attended the opening ceremony held today.

This distribution center will stock adhesive materials and label materials in rolled sheets from Avery Dennison's worldwide manufacturing sites located primarily in Asian countries such as China and South Korea via Chiba Port, cutting these into sizes to suit customers needs while also performing slit processing for winding the products and packaging products. A warehouse has also been established to improve distribution efficiency by managing products centrally. With the opening of this distribution center, Avery Dennison Japan will have established an environment where the company is able to provide its greatest strength of "value-engineered products (high-value-added products)", even in Japan.

Half of total floor space of approximately 1,700 square meters (single-story structure) is used as an office area and processing area, with the remaining space serving as a warehouse area. The processing area contains two slitters for performing slit processing, along with equipment for packaging products.

The recent rapidly-worsening economic slump has created a headwind that is troubling many companies in the Japanese market. However, even under these conditions, Avery Dennison Japan believes it can continue to have high expectations due to the enormous potential demand and the expansion of business opportunities in Japan and neighboring countries, and has decided to accelerate its growth strategy as a result. In the period until the end of 2009, which has been positioned as the first phase of its growth strategy, Avery Dennison Japan plans to spend a total of US$6 million including the establishment of the distribution center. In addition, Avery Dennison Japan plans to select a candidate site for a second distribution center in the north of the Kanto area by the end of 2009.

Since 1935 when Stanton Avery invented the world's first self-adhesive label, launching a new company and a new industry, Avery Dennison has been a global leader in pressure-sensitive technology and innovative self-adhesive solutions for consumer products and label materials. Avery Dennison employs more than 30,000 individuals in over 60 countries.
